Office of Public and Community Affairs (OPCA)

Community-based, faith-based, private sector, and non-profit organizations play a crucial role in supporting New York City public schools and students. The Office of Public and Community Affairs (OPCA) works to create relationships with these stakeholders—so we can engage and inform them about the Department of Education's initiatives and reforms.

The Office of Public and Community Affairs:

  • Conducts outreach to community and faith-based leaders and organizations, the private sector, community boards, non-profits, and other local and civic organizations.
  • Actively identifies synergies between the Department of Education and communities of New York City.
  • Encourages and facilitates dialogue between key community stakeholders and senior Department of Education officials.
  • Organizes and provides support for select public and community affairs events.

Please contact OPCA to set up a community meeting with a member of the OPCA team or to request a community meeting with the Chancellor or other senior Department of Education officials.
