Respect For All Week

PS 80 The Thurgood Marshall School - Queens

Did you know there are elementary kids at PS 80 helping other kids solve their problems in positive ways? They are in 4th and 5th grade and are called Mediators. This is how it works. Kids with good behavior are trained in a six week program by guidance counselors, Max Nass and Winsome Christie. The 20 students learn a script that they can easily memorize with the aid of a Mediator Rap CD. Four of them are on lunch duty each day. Peers call upon them when they have problems. Over 85% of problems have been solved by the Mediators. The lunch aides, teachers and administration are all involved in making the Mediation program work. The above photos are posters which are displayed throughout the school.
