Level A Responsibility:

  • Performs design review for engineering portions of multiple projects; performs review for either Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) or Line Projects,

  • May function as a project leader reporting to an Engineer B or C, Managing Architect, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers and Architects; may direct Associate Engineers/ Architects and Architectural/Engineering Technicians working on several less complex design and construction projects, up to and including small primary schools, partial modernizations, additions, leased space planning, and CIP projects.

  • Provides overall coordination for in-house design projects; performs and/or supervises the preparation of scope, pre-schematic, schematic, preliminary and construction documents including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications. Works with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel as well as outside consultants, contractors, vendors, and various government agencies.

  • Monitors the progress of the construction phase of the project; conducts site observations, prepares field reports, assists in the preparation of punch lists and deficiency reports, and supervises the review of contractor’s submittals; reviews reports.

  • Maintains and develops general understanding of architectural and engineering principles.

  • May be required to sign, seal and file engineering drawings.

Engineer B

  • May function as project leader reporting to an Engineer C, Managing Architect, Managing Engineer, or Director to plan and coordinate work with other Engineers and Architects; may direct Engineers, Architects, Associate Engineers and Associate Architects, and Architectural/Engineering Technicians, working on several more complex design projects such as large primary schools, small intermediate schools, special types of buildings (e.g. special education schools), full modernizations, large additions, and specialized and/or numerous CIP projects.

  • May act as a discipline leader in a department to train and develop internal staff in a specific engineering discipline, and may chair or participate in department seminars and workshops. Provides mentoring for professional development of lower level employees such as engineers, associates, and technicians.

  • Trains new SCA employees and contingent staff, as well as outside design consultants, on SCA standards and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants for all of the Engineer positions must have the following:

  1. Ability to understand and be understood in English.

  2. A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer. Current New York State license must be maintained for duration of employment.

In addition, the following specific experiences must be met:

  • Engineer A: Other than the license, no additional experience is required.

  • Engineer B: Three years of full-time paid post-licensure experience as a Professional Engineer; two years must be as a project engineer; project, team, or squad leader; or a comparable level of responsibility.
