POSITION TITLE MANAGING ENGINEER, Level A or B Civil Service Classification - Competitive |
DIVISION: ARECHITECTURE & ENGINEERING |
Level A Responsibilities:
- Manages interdisciplinary teams of professional and technical staff assigned to simple, moderate and complex engineering projects.
- Recommends policies and procedures on engineering related subjects.
- Participates in setting performance standards for the engineering phase of new construction, renovations and system replacement.
- May participate in meetings with other divisions, contractors and community groups as they relate to engineering matters.
- Participates in establishing major tasks, performance standards and evaluation ratings for professional and technical staff.
- Participates in selecting, developing and motivating Division personnel to build and maintain a strong team of competent employees.
- May sign and seal drawings and other documents in behalf of the Authority.
- Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of designated staff and makes recommendation regarding recruitment, hiring, promotion, reassignment and discipline of staff.
- Performs related tasks.
Level B Responsibilities:
- Manages interdisciplinary teams of professional and technical staff assigned to more complex projects.
- Plans, assigns, monitors, reviews and evaluates the work of Managing Engineer, Level A.
- May perform duties of Managing Engineer, Level A.
- May participate in meetings with other divisions, contractors and community groups as they relate to engineering matters.
Required Background (Experience/Education):
- A valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer,
and
- Level A positions require seven years of full time progressive experience as a Professional Engineer; three years must have been as a project leader, project engineer or major project contributor,
or
- Level B positions require eight years of full time progressive experience as a Professional Engineer; four years must have been as a project leader, project engineer or major project contributor,
or
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
Weighted consideration may be given to those candidates who are thoroughly familiar and up-to-date with Board of Education and Authority design standards, and specifications, as well as the rules and regulations of City Department of Buildings, Department of Health, Department of Environmental Protection and Fire Department.
