Department of Early Childhood Education

The Office of Early Childhood Education (OECE) coordinates prekindergarten services citywide and offers after-school programs for early learners. Recognizing the importance of early intervention, and social-emotional, literacy and numeracy development, OECE has aligned prekindergarten programs with Children First.

Our office promotes standards-based instruction in early childhood education in public schools as well as community-based organizations.

Early childhood programs include New York City Early Literacy Learning (NYCELL), Targeted Prekindergarten (TPK), Universal Prekindergarten (UPK), and Partners in Reading After-School Program. We invite you to read about our programs and services, and access educational and community resources on early childhood development and learning.
