Students No Longer Permitted to Stand on Lifts to Board/Unload School Buses

National School Transportation Specifications and Procedures indicate that during operation of a wheel chair lift on a school bus (including manual operation), "no one shall be allowed to stand on the lift platform" (page 223, section E).

In a joint effort to improve student safety, the Office of Pupil Transportation and the Division of Students with Disabilities (Special Education) are advising schools that students served by the NYC DOE will no longer be permitted to stand on lifts to board/unload school buses.
