About Full-Fare Transportation

Full-fare transportation means that if your child qualifies, their trip to and from school won't cost you anything. Children eligible for full-fare transportation receive either a student MetroCard or free yellow bus transportation.

The Office of Pupil Transportation (OPT) offers four services for students to get to school:
  1. Stop-to-School (GE) Busing —Yellow bus service to and from a designated school bus stop.
  2. Door-to-Door (SE) Busing —Yellow bus service to and from an assigned school.
  3. Student MetroCards—Full and half fare MetroCards for use on public transportation.
  4. Pre-K and Early Intervention Busing—Curb-to-curb yellow bus service for children under the age of five, who are enrolled in special education programs.

Over 600,000 NYC students attending both public and non-public schools located within the five boroughs and neighboring counties in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut use these services. OPT also provides bus service for more than 160,000 field trips every year.
