Public Hearings On New York City's Preliminary 2014-15 Contracts For Excellence Plan – June 17th – June 25th

    6/9/2014

The Department of Education will be holding a public hearing on the Citywide Contracts For Excellence Plan in each of the five boroughs, a public process that will further encourage parental and community involvement.

The DOE will use the feedback in refining its final Citywide Contracts for Excellence Plan. A public hearing will be held in each borough on the following dates:

    Manhattan: June 17 – 7:00-9:00 p.m. – Stuyvesant HS (345 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10282)

    Brooklyn: June 18 – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Edward R Murrow HS (1600 Avenue L, Brooklyn, NY 11230)

    Bronx: June 19 – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – M.S. 223 (360 E.145th Street, Bronx, NY 10454)

    Staten Island: June 23 – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Petrides Complex (715 Ocean Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10301)

    Queens: June 25 – 6:30-8:30 p.m. – Long Island City HS (14-30 Broadway, Queens, NY 11106)

The deadline for public comment is July 19th. Comments may be submitted at the hearings or by emailing ContractsForExcellence@schools.nyc.gov.

Under State law, Contract for Excellence funds must be distributed to schools to benefit students with the greatest educational needs as defined by New York State and must also be spent in six specific program areas—class size reduction, time on task, teacher and principal quality initiatives, middle school and high school restructuring, full-day pre-Kindergarten, and model programs for English Language Learners. Information about the City’s preliminary Contracts plan is posted on the Department’s Website. All proposed allocations described in this plan are contingent on further analysis of school-based conditions. New York City will not be receiving Contracts for Excellence funds in an amount greater than the amount received last year during the 2014-15 school year.
