Department of Education Announces Annual Middle School Fairs

Open Houses will be Held in October and November

The New York City Department of Education today announced a series of fall events to help students and their families choose a middle school. The Department will host its annual District Middle School Fairs on October 8, 9, 10, 16, and 17 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Fairs will be held in districts 1-23, 25, and 28-32, and families do not need to RSVP to attend. For a complete list of dates and locations, please visit www.nyc.gov/schools and search “middle schools.” Schools will hold open houses for interested students in the weeks following the District Middle School Fairs.

At the District Middle School Fairs, staff and students from the City’s public middle schools will provide information and answer questions about their schools. The Fairs will include information sessions about Middle School Admissions, covering key dates, deadlines, and instructions for applying. Families can pick up copies of the Directory of New York City Public Middle Schools 2013-2014 at each Fair. Interpretation services will be available at the fairs.

The District Middle School Fairs are open to fifth grade students and students graduating from K-6 elementary schools applying to middle school for the 2014-2015 school year. Fourth grade students interested in beginning to learn about their middle school options are also invited.

Middle school applications will be distributed to families in November and are due back to guidance counselors in December.
