New York City can claim reimbursements from Medicaid when certain services have been provided to students and various requirements from both the state and federal government have been met. The Office of Medicaid Operations in collaboration with the Office of New School Design and Charter Partnerships are launching Medicaid reimbursement for services for Charter School Students.
An important part of the process for Medicaid reimbursements is the collection of the Medicaid parental consent forms. These forms ask for permission to access a student’s records along with the family’s Medicaid benefits (if applicable) for purposes of Medicaid reimbursements. The DOE asks all families of students with disabilities to sign this form regardless of their own Medicaid eligibility; Medicaid eligibility and the consent form do not impact the DOE’s obligation to provide services per a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP).
The DOE asks Charter schools for their assistance in distributing and collecting the parental consent forms. For more information look at Collecting Medicaid Consent Forms in Charter Schools.
