Where to Find Answers

Committed to helping parents find answers to frequently asked questions regarding their child's education, the New York City Department of Education has created this "Where to Find Answers" resource. This resource was designed to help parents in a clear and systematic way through the appropriate channels to escalate their questions and/or concerns; from the school level to the citywide level. This parent assistance tool clarifies issues related to Academics, Discipline Concerns, Transportation Inquiries, Safety, Enrollment/Zoning Issues, Language Access and Special Education.

Find a School

Within your child’s school building there is either a parent coordinator or parent point person to assist you with the problem you are experiencing. Check out Find a School to link to your child’s school’s web page. This tool will connect you to your child’s school’s phone number and the parent coordinator or parent point person’s name so that you know

who to ask for when calling the school. If the parent coordinator is not listed on the website, you can still access the school’s phone number. When calling your child’s school you can ask for the parent coordinator or the parent liaison.

If you need assistance identifying the next step, please contact the Division of Family and Community Engagement and we will be happy to help.
