The Manhattan School for Career Development is operated as a Special Education program under the auspices of the District 75, Citywide Programs. The school offers its students a unique opportunity to develop rigorous academic and career readiness skills, appropriate work habits and critical thinking abilities. As a secondary school program for non-diploma bound students with disabilities, its mission is to implement a service delivery model that will facilitate employment, training and/or community involvement. Toward this end, it has structured a four stage, career training sequence that systematically increases students’ community based internship time and independence . The final phase is the Manhattan Transition Center which offers intensive vocational training as well as assistance with post secondary opportunities.
We provide internship/work experience and transition opportunities in cooperation with various agencies and community-based organizations, such as ACCES-VR, OPWDD, OMH, AHRC, GMHC, Teachers College, North Central Bronx Hospital, Goldwater-Coler Hospital, VA Hospital, Jewish Home Lifecare, The Mount Sinai Hospital, 369th Armory Regiment, 69th Armory Regiment, NYU, Bellevue Hospital, Goodwill, Baruch College, Hunter College , Gouverneur Hospital, City Opera Thrift Shop, Teacher Aid Training Program and ABC Daycare.
