  Music

Welcome to the PS/IS 111 Music Page!!

CHOIR
PS/IS 111 has three performing choral ensembles - our 2nd and 3rd grade choir, which meets afterschool, and our 4th and 5th grade choir and middle school choir which meet during the school day.  After a successful start to the year, we are enthusiastically working on preparing songs for a January concert centering on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  We look forward to seeing you at our first concert of the year!

3RD GRADE
Our third grade students are beginning their study of the recorder. The recorder program enhances understanding of musical elements such as melody, form, rhythm, harmony, and note-reading and prepares students for playing a band instrument in the 4th grade.

FOURTH GRADE
Dear 4th Grade Students and Parents,  Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year!  This year, your 4th grade student has the opportunity to be a member of the PS 111 Band.  This is our second year as a band thanks to the VH1 Save the Music Foundation, which last year helped us receive new band instruments.  The 4th graders will form a beginner’s band, while the 5th graders, who began on their instruments last year, will form an advanced band.

Students will be attending an instrument demonstration in the upcoming weeks.  After this demonstration, students will be asked to choose their top 3 instrument preferences.  These choices include, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and percussion.

At this time you need to decide whether or not your child should study an instrument and join the school band program. The following thoughts and information should help you make that decision
