Freshmen ELA Course Outline
Students will be:
-Moving from writing plot summary to writing literary analysis
-Develop the 7 Habits of Reading: Making Inferences, Activating Schema, Visualization, Determining Importance, Synthesizing, Summarizing, Monitoring for Meaning
-Listen and take valuable class notes
-Present ideas effectively through discussion, social interaction,
  and formal presentation
 
 
Sophomores ELA Course Outline
Students will:
-Incorporate analysis of literary elements in writing, and identify
  and discuss literary elements in literature
-Write effective compare/contrast essays
-Learn skills and strategies for taking the PSAT,  including word etymology
-Relate literature to contemporary world issues

Course Electives -
    Sophomores /Honors English- Pre IB
 
 
Juniors ELA Course Outline
Students will:
-Analyze informational materials (graphs, charts, etc.)
-Write effective literature analysis using literary elements
-Effectively interpret quotations
-Use and cite textual evidence in formal writing
-Study a survey of American literature, and the historical issues
  pertaining to said literature

Course Electives -
    Junior/IB English coming Fall 2010


 
Seniors ELA Course Outline
Students will:
-Learn research techniques, including differentiation of source material
-Use MLA-style citation effectively
-Move beyond writing five-paragraph essays
-Develop critical thinking and advanced analysis skills
