Our Visual Arts Program follows the model of college art programs around the country. Entering students take a year -long Foundation class, where a variety of skills and approaches are taught. Students then specialize in a variety of disciplines: Architectural Drawing, Fashion Design, Digital Photography, Painting and Pastel Portraiture, and Art History.
In addition, students produce portfolios for acceptance into the most competitive art and design colleges in the country. Some schools that have admitted GAHS students are: Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, SUNY Purchase, Fashion Institute of Technology, New Paltz, Syracuse, and Cornell.
Student mentors and internships in the arts industry help to give students first hand experiences and an awareness of high paying career options. Some internship\mentor programs our students participate in are: TORCH program (advertising and graphic design), ACE program (architecture, construction, and engineering), Sony (animation), Fantasy Fountain Fund (sculpture casting in bronze) and the Parsons and Cooper Union Saturday and Summer Programs.
