The First Tee Golf Program

The First Tee is an initiative dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through golf and character education, life-enhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. The intent is to offer opportunities for improvement in the quality of life and create a platform where children can increase their potential for success.

Several specific objectives are linked to the programs focus:

· To provide the equipment, curriculum, and training that enables physical education teachers to integrate golf into their ongoing high school programs

· To introduce golf in a developmentally appropriate manner, consistent with national standards for Physical Education

· To introduce a structured golf skill’s curriculum in safe and fun environment

· To develop student understanding that golf fosters fine and gross motor skill development and overall physical fitness

· To develop student appreciation of the positive values and life skills associated with the game

· To present golf to students as a lifelong recreation and physical fitness activity

¨ To create links between the education and golf communities so that students have greater access to regular youth golf programs

The focus of the The First Tee National School Program (NSP) is to establish a lifelong interest in golf by engaging children in a structured golf curriculum taught during physical education classes, while positively impacting their lives and helping to ensure the vitality of the game. Industry associations, media organizations, golf course owners, equipment manufacturers, community leaders, school district administrative staff, teachers and students work together to implement this curriculum at local schools. NSP Leadership Teams promote realistic and accessible transition opportunities to those children interested in taking their game to the next level – learning and playing at a golf facility in Chelsea Piers.
