The school does not discriminate on the basis of an applicant's race, color, creed, gender, gender identity, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.

School Application Instructions

Harvey Milk High School (HMHS) is a small, transfer high school seeking applicants who are ready to take full ownership of their learning and who are motivated and committed to successfully complete their high school education.  HMHS provides all students with a safe, supportive, and engaging educational environment with the support of its partnering community based organization, The Hetrick-Martin Institute (HMI).

Many of our students take advantage of the after-school program and services provided by HMI, an organization with over a 25 year history of working with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, at-risk, and straight youth.  HMI’s after-school programs include experiences in the arts, music, socialization, health, and counseling, among others.  In addition, HMHS students participate in other extracurricular activities including the NYC Mentoring Program, College Preview Program at New York University, Cooper Union’s Saturday Art Program, NYU Law School’s High School Law program, and the American Museum of Natural History’s after-school science program.

Please understand that because we are a small school we are unable to accept all applicants.  Therefore, it is very important that you apply to other high schools as well
