  • Our Mission
Our mission: Given proper supports, all students can be academically successful; the school is committed to serving an academically and culturally diverse student body; all Community Action School students must receive a rigorous, challenging educational program aligned with the New York State performance standards; to be able to meet all of our students' learning needs, teachers must be constantly growing in professional knowledge; an inclusion model works best for most special education students; middle school students need fair and clearly articulated guidelines for their behavior, as well as a supportive, warm, and accessible support network in the school; it is the school's responsibility to work with the whole student, serving his/her academic and emotional needs.

  • Special Programs
The Community Action School's special academic programs include a strong hands-on science program, intensive literacy instruction for students of all ability levels, and an innovative social studies program that brings history alive for students.

  • Extracurricular Activities
The Liberty Partners program, a collaborative with Bank Street College, provides five days a week of after-school for Community Action School students. The school also offers after-school dance, violin instruction, art, and basketball.

  • Our Community
The school works closely with a number of agencies, including the School Leadership Program, the Reading Reform Foundation, Bank Street College, the NY Freudian Society, and the National Helpers Network.
