Through the utilization of technology, a variety of media, resource tools, differntiated activities are being implemented to meet the unique needs and learning styles of all students. Students utilize the latest infromation and communicatin technology applications.
*The students will use the internet to locate and view websites with the content related to the curriculum, use tthe school Wikispace to share their work and to communicate with peers in other schools, publish their work on our school website, video conference with other classes around the world and the country. The students blog with their friends on the school's blogging site, and go on virtual field trips and communicate with experts.
*Desk Top publishing Software, such as Word and Appleworks, is used to create original documents such as reports, class books, which incorporate text and graphics.
*Graphic Organizer Software, such as Kidspiration is used to organize and analyze information.
*Multimedia Authoring Software, such as PowerPoint, to create multimedia presentations and inserting text, graphics, audio and animation.
*Students participate in on line book club in which students read books together and communicate with each other during book talks at class blog site. Students also create podcasts of their book talks.
*Students participate in collaborative projects which include research, concept skills mapping and creating final products. They interact with peers to analyze and synthesize information and as a result, improve higher order critical thinking skills.
*On a rotating basis, students participate in a technology lunch club, which includes activities such as Garageband software and burning music on CD's, other activities include digital camera photo taking and learning how to upload photos, keyboarding, Google Earth, etc.
By participating in the above activities, students demonstrate that they are improving their 21st Century Skills and that they are mastering the technology standards (NETS-S).
Smartboard Technology
*PS 112 has a SmartBoard technology Study group that is facilitated by the technology teacher. All classrooms now have Smart Boards and we continue to provide professional development in using the SmartBoards as an instructional tool.
*PS 112 purchased laptops and LCD projectors and will purchase more laptops to ensure that the SmartBoards are used as an instructional tool.
Renzulli Learning System
*All students are assessed to determine their unique learning styles, strengths, abilities and preferred working styles and they were matched with resources specifically selected to challenge, enrich and engage each student.
