CPEII works with the East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) which provides after school care for children in CPE I and CPE II together. The EHTP’s main site is at 2050 SECOND AVE 1ST FL , PHONE: (212)831-0650, CPE II students are part of the free EHTP that operates at our sister school, CPE I, at 106th and Madison. Students are picked up from CPE II daily. EHT offers a comprehensive After-School program that offers individual tutoring, as well as homework assistance and recreational programs to children and youth ages 6-19. Special events include trips, holiday parties and an annual skating party and picnic. Parents should contact Marsha, our Parent Coordinator, for an application.
The following are additional programs that CPE II children attend. Parents who find additional resources are invited to share them.
· New York Junior Tennis League operates an afterschool program at the JHS 13 building where CPE I is located (106th & Madison.) They will be collaborating with EHTP next year, so that students registered for EHTP will be able to participate in this program. However, if you would like your child to only be part of the Tennis program, he or she can be registered. The Fall program will run in September and October. The Spring program will begin in April. The program runs Monday – Thursday , 3PM to 6PM and is free of charge. Applications are available from Jeannie.
· The Harlem YMCA: The Harlem YMCA (180 West 135th St.) has an after-school program and sends a van to pick up students from CPE II. One of our school bus’s also stops close to the “Y”. The phone number is 212-281-4100.
· Boys’ and Girls’ Harbor : (212-427-2244), located directly across the street from CPE II, provides recreational and academic programs. Their after-school programs run five days a week from 3-6:00pm. A CPE II staff person crosses students from school to Harbor. For registration, call Agency for Child Development (ACD) at 212-835-7715/ 7718 and ask to be put on the waiting list. The wait may be from six to eight months but is well worth it.
Boys’ and Girls Harbor also has a Performing Arts Department that operates separately from the regular after-school program. The Theater and Music Divisions offer tuition paying programs, which include after-school lessons. The CAS center at 130 East 101st Street picks up children from CPE II. The phone number is 212 348 2343.
- A.C.T. After-School Program at Cathedral of St. John the Divine
112th (212) 316-7530. The ACT After-School Program offers a safe, fun and relaxed atmosphere for children at the end of the school day. The program is for children in grades K - 5 and consists of options based on a child's age, interests and level of participation. Children take one of our Yellow Busses to this program..
- 92nd Street “Y” (212-996-1100) at Lexington Avenue has a full after-school program. Parents can use A & A for transportation.
- PAL 216 Ft. Washington Ave corner of 169th Street (212) 927-0306. After-School Program 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm Arts & crafts, homework help, music and dance, sports, computer classes, and more. One of our Yellow bus routes stops very near this site.
