Many Central Park East II students live beyond walking distance from the school. Many of these students ride one of several yellow bus routes that service Harlem, the Upper West Side and Washington Heights. Students who live along these routes, and are at least five years old, are encouraged to ride the school bus. You can view routes by going to “http://www.opt-osfns.org/opt/” At the far right, under the heading “School Transportation Information” type in our OPT NO. 04672. The phone number for Amboy Bus Company is 1-718-585-8592. Students living in areas not serviced by the yellow bus routes may be eligible to receive half or full fare metro cards, depending on their grade and distance from the school. Eligible students may receive a metro card or ride the school bus, not both. There are also private bus companies and after-school programs that service CPE II. Two that are currently used are: A & A (718) 588-5050 and Baker Bus (718) 320-2523. Please contact them for costs and schedules.
Certain students with IEPs are eligible to receive door-to-door transportation.
All families requesting school transportation must complete a DOE transportation form.
Our primary concern is your child’s safety. Students should always keep a CPE II Student Bus Information Sheet in their backpack. All of our buses pick children up from other schools in addition to CPE II. General Education buses do NOT have a matron. The only adult on the bus is the driver. It is crucial that you talk to your child about appropriate and safe behavior. Children should fasten their seat belts when they get on the bus and MUST remain seated for the entire ride until the bus stops to let them off. There is no fighting, teasing or throwing of objects allowed on the bus. Students who do not follow these rules will be suspended from the bus. Children who consistently behave in a manner that creates an unsafe situation on the bus will have their bus riding privileges revoked. It is important for students to know that once you put them on the bus, they are actually in school. They follow our rules. They cannot go to the store once they get off the bus; they are to come directly into the school.
