Principal's Statement

We are preparing students to meet the challenges of the 21st century. We recognize that children are our most valuable resources and we must strive to nurture their hopes, dreams and aspirations. We are instilling in our youngsters to never settle for less than their best. It is our intent to successfully meet the diverse needs of all students. To achieve this goal, emphasis is placed on creating positive - school partnerships. We understand the importance of parental involvement in all aspects of the school's program. Parents play a major role in creating great schools and we welcome their support.

School's Pledge

Students are expected to learn our school pledge.  The pledge will be recited each morning.

I pledge today to do my best
In reading, math and all the rest.
I promise to obey the rules
In my class and in the school.
I respect myself and others too.
I expect the best in all I do.
I am here to learn all I can.
To try my best and be all that I am.

School Wide Academic Focus

All staff members, including the administrators are focusing daily on instructional activities until 11:30a.m.  Therefore, faculty members are not available to meet with parents until after 11:30 a.m.  Parents may leave an appointment request form with Ms. Cadlett, Parent Coordinator.  The parent will be contacted within 24 hours.

Creating a Safe and Caring School

Emphasis is placed on creating a safe and caring school.  The learning environment must be free from disruptive behaviors.  Our school's discipline policy ensures that there is order so that teaching and learning can take place.  There are rewards for students who follow the rules and consequences for students who do not obey the rules.  Our Scholar Dollar Incentive Program involves distributing scholar dollars to students who are adhering to the school rules.  Students may use their scholar dollars to purchase items from our scholar store.

School Rules

1.  We come to school on time.
2.  We come to school prepared to learn and to work.
3.  We are respectful of ourselves -- and all members of our school community.
4.  We agree to always carry the appropriate color coded pass when leaving the classroom.
5.  We will refrain from bringing prohibited items to school (toys, electric devices, weapons).
6.  We pledge to settle all disputes respectfully without resorting to physical contact or profane language.

Pre-referral Intervention Process

The Pre-Referral Intervention Process is a model of service aimed at identifying resources and services to educate diverse learners in general education classes.  The Pupil Personnel Committee will work with teachers and parents to create intervention plans for addressing the needs of students who are not achieving grade level standards.  Emphasis is placed on trying interventions prior to submitting a Special Education Referral to the Committee on Special Education.  We are requesting that parents meet with Dr. Lewis before submitting a referral for a special education evaluation.  It is our goal to utilize various interventions to enable students to be educated within the context of general education.  Please contact Ms. J. Figueroa for additional information.
