Starting in September 2010 we implemented a positive behavior intervention program (PBIS). This allows us to convey high expectations for learning and behavior to students and families. The program’s design, (offering reward for desired behaviors that students then redeem for selected items at the school’s store), has positively impacted on student attendance rate (92% average from September 2010-May 2011) and helped dramatically decrease (53%) in the number of suspensions. We have celebrated our school culture change and improvement with PBIS events: Schoolwide fundraisers, Zumba Fridays (students), Zumba Thursday Evenings (parents and families), Crazy Hat Day, Pajama Day, PBIS school wide celebrations and barbeques. Our school met “Starsky,” our PBIS mascot introduced during our March 15 Fitness school wide celebration. We will continue to empower our students to be Safe, Responsible, Respectful and Prepared.
