Social Studies Program

    Social Studies Program Overview
Social Studies Support Coach - Ms. K. Caliman-Byrd

The PS 175 Social Studies Program is aligned with the NYS Core Curriculum Standards.  Through projects, trips, class activities and reading and writing assignments, students learn about people, places, time periods and events that shape our city, state, country and world.

The curriculum for kindergarten through grade 2 students mainly focuses on developing awareness of self, family, neighborhoods and communities.  Students in grades 3 through 5 study world communities, the history and development of New York State and cultures of the western hemisphere.  We utilize the Houghton Mifflin Social Studies Program in grades 1 - 5.

    School Highlights:
    • Trips aligned with units of study
