National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is among the premier organizations established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921 and 1929.

Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of NHS, and it’s junior organization NJHS. NHS chapters are found in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.

The National Honor Society at Mott Hall High School began as an idea in the beginning of the 2006-2007 school year. We were extremely proud this year to be able to induct our inaugural class of inductees into this new organization. Being a new organization, we were asked to name our chapter. The Faculty Council members thought long and hard about the what a proper name could be. The name Delta Mu was chosen because Delta is the symbol for change, and Mu begins with the same letter as Mott Hall High School. We hope that each student inducted into the NHS at MHHS will work to make positive changes in our school environment. So, to us, the Delta Mu chapter means selecting students who we feel will be capable of making those positive changes that will help MHHS grow to become even greater than it is now
