Student Academics @ The Audubon School

Here at P.S. 128M: The Audubon School, we believe in educating the whole child.  Therefore, in addition to the core curriculum, we offer specialized programs through partnerships with various organizations.  Furthermore, throughout the school year, we integrate programs that support college and career readiness for our students.  Below is a list of special class offerings, programs, extracurricular activities, and community partnerships that make P.S. 128M: The Audubon School the amazing and unique school is it.

School-Based Programs

Accelerated Learners

Based on teacher recommendations and NY State Assessment scores, students in this cohort delve into the academics at a much deeper and challenging level. Additionally, independent studies and projects are integrated into the academics to provide more exposure to topics outside of the core grade level curriculum.

Dual Language Program

Educational research has shown that Dual Language Programs have multiple benefits to the child’s overall academic growth and attitudes towards multiculturalism.  The Dual Language Program offered at P.S.128M offers students an opportunity to be immersed into both the English and Spanish languages.  This balanced, 50/50, approach educates children with the goal for them to be orally and reading and writing proficient in both languages.

The Arts Program

Arts education is a vital component in a child’s education.  Research has proven that arts education positively impacts a child’s academics in reading and language skills, math, science, and history.  Therefore at P.S.128M: The Audubon School, we provide various arts programs.  Throughout the week classes across all grade levels attend visual arts class and have opportunities to work with our certified art teacher in studying artistic techniques.  The art room is filled with great images and various art supplies to allow students to be creative and think outside the box.  The fabulous student artwork is displayed throughout the school during our annual art show.  Similarly, students have the chance to experience art through dance.  Students study different dance forms with our certified dance instructor in our beautiful dance room.  At the conclusion of their study, classes perform their dances during an assembly.

Technology and Media

The 21st Century is proving itself to be an age where technology and media are flourishing.  Therefore, it is vital to prepare our students with the technological skills necessary to navigate through today’s society.  With 2 computer labs and one media resource center, P.S. 128M is committed to preparing our young scholars for college and career by providing them academic access to knowledge on basic computer functions, computer-based programs, and creating presentations using Microsoft Power Point, Publisher, and special multimedia tools and programs.
