June 14, 2013 was P.S 189's second ALS walk to help raise awareness of this disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. The walk was organized by Mary Lambros, Art teacher and took place at the George Washington High School track.
Fourth and fifth graders participated in a 2 mile walk and sold paper baseballs to family members and friends as a fundraiser. A total of $493.31 was raised by P.S 189 to help the ALS Association find a cure for this neurological degenerative disease.
An adorable baby raccoon was spotted on a fence at the track and joined our walk for a short while.
We give special thanks to Sonia Blanco, gym teacher for making the balloon arch for our walk and to Marcos Suero, guidance counselor for taking photos at the event.
