The mission of the Jonas Bronck School (PS 43) is to create a school setting which will promote high expectations for the entire school family of pupils, parents and staff. Through professional development and integrated, literature-based and thematic approaches the parents and staff will engage the students in active learning so that they can learn the skills and acquire the knowledge needed to function effectively in our modern society.
Through our partnership with The After School Corporation our students benefit from an academic and recreational extended day program. Academic intervention programs include Project Read, Project Sunshine, Reading Recovery, FEMA Program, Push-In Academic Intervention Program assist in meeting individual student needs.
The After School Corporation Extended Day Program (TASC), Project Sunshine and FEMA Programs operate Monday - Friday on grades K-5 to assist students academically. Additionally, they provide recreational activities and strengthen the home-school relationship. Our parents, community and staff are active participants in these programs.
Our parent volunteers receive training from the NYC School Volunteers program weekly. Additionally, every Wednesday our parents receive workshops on various topics to help them at home with their children and to better understand the school organization and curriculum. Parents continue to volunteer in our classrooms, offices and lunchrooms.
