CSSJ School-wide Student Rules

1.Physical abuse/violence of any kind is not permitted between community members or their friends. This includes fighting during and after school time and outside of the school as well as on school grounds. Students may not bring weapons of any kind to school and are subject to arrest if caught with a weapon. Bullying and sexual harassment are impermissible.

2.Verbal violence, including name-calling, cursing, threatening, racial slurs, or bias remarks, is not acceptable.

3.Student attire: Students may not wear du-rags, hats, or bandanas. Clothing, jewelry and other articles that may reflect gang membership including beads, colors, etc. are not allowed. Clothing with offensive slogans or clothing that is too revealing is not allowed.

4.Students must carry their ID at all times and present it to school safety every morning.

5.Students are not allowed to be in the hallway without a pass (except during changing of classes). Repeated wandering around the halls will lead to disciplinary action.

6.Class ends when the teacher dismisses the class and the students put their desks and chairs back in proper order.

7.Cutting class is not allowed.

8.Cell phones, iPods, iPhones, PSPs, MP3s, Sidekicks and other similar electronic devices disrupt learning and are not allowed. If a student needs to carry a cell phone for medical purposes, the parent must provide medical documentation from the child’s physician and contact the school principal to discuss the request.

9.Vandalism, including destruction of and damage to property, is impermissible.

10. School records may not be tampered with.

11. There can be no stealing in school or during school-related activities and trips.

12. Students may not bring food or beverages into class.

13. Students may not smoke on school grounds.

14. Students are not permitted to leave early unless a parent/guardian comes to school to sign them out.

15. Cheating/Plagiarism is not acceptable.

16. Students may not leave school grounds until dismissed at the end of the school day.

When rules and/or policies are violated, school staff will investigate the situation, talk with the students involved, often meet with parents/guardians and decide upon an appropriate course of action. Individuals who play significant roles in determining consequences are: the principal, assistant principals, parents/guardians, the family group advisor, teachers who are involved, the guidance counselor and the school social worker.
