The Senator John D. Calandra School, Public School 14, is a caring, interactive twenty-first century community committed to the development of healthy and happy lifelong learners who achieve individually and cooperatively. We are committed to preparing our students to become responsible, thoughtful, and creative individuals, to have a positive self-image, and a love for learning. We are committed to maintaining an open and healthy school climate, and to strive for the highest levels of educational excellence. We will use our resources to support our school community’s use of proven educational means to optimize the academic, social, and emotional development of each child.
P.S. 14 is organized heterogeneously in support of our Balanced Literacy and Mathematics Workshop approach and other content area instruction. Achievement is enhanced by a diverse curriculum that engages students, through a support network to meet individual student needs, and by programs and practices designed to enrich their experiences.
P.S. 14 offers extended day remedial literacy and mathematics classes and after school clubs with character development and enrichment activities (Art, Board Games, Chess, Computer, Leadership, Music, Roundtable, Shinning Lights, Sports, Video, and Volleyball). The Bronx YMCA utilizes school facilities for their fee based SACC program.
Senator Velella offers funding to P.S. 14 for important aspects of our school. Council Woman Provenzano provides enrichment activities for our students. The NBWNRA supports our PTA. We are proud of our association with Common Cents of New York, Inc. whose annual Penny Harvest and Student Roundtable activities contribute to our “Kinder Way”.
