PS 71 and The Preparatory Academy use a balanced literacy approach to the teaching of reading. This approach includes phonetic development, leveled libraries, exposure to all genres and writing journals. We utilize Everyday Mathematics in the lower grades and Impact Math in the uppergrades. Struggling students are offered multiple supports in the form of AIS (academic intervention services) , Saturday academy, learning leaders, english as a second language services, special education teacher support services and collaborative team teaching.
