Dr. Joel T. DiBartolomeo, Principal
Dear Jane Addams Family,The staff at Jane Addams is delighted to welcome you to another school year! We have planned an exciting school program for our students and we are privileged to have the opportunity to work with them.
There are several significant changes at Jane Addams for 2012-2013. The first is that we have evolved into a school campus, which now houses three high schools. For this school year, the Jane Addams’ classrooms will be located on the first and second floors of the building.
To help us maintain our focus on fulfilling all core requirements for graduation, we have enhanced the guidelines we will be using for promotion. To be promoted to the next grade, a stronger emphasis is being placed on student progress in core subject areas and passing Regents examinations. To support those students who may be short credits or examinations, we have expanded our extended school program to include more credit bearing options and Regents preparation courses. Each student is eligible to benefit from a customized learning plan and be supported by a College and Career Specialist. More details about our extended school program will be available during the second week of school.
In addition, we will be operating with a new bell schedule (see below) that will permit students three opportunities to enjoy a nourishing meal or snack during the school day. The cafeteria will be open at 7:30 a.m. until 7:55 a.m. for those students who would like a warm breakfast. At 10:38 a.m., students will be provided a meal during the Breakfast-in-the-Classroom program. This is a new initiative in the DOE designed to help ensure that our students are at their peak performance by providing them with quality nutrition. Students will also have their regular lunch period. All students have been programmed for seven academic courses. As noted previously, students who need additional courses to get back on track will be able to participate in our Extended School program, which will operate Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. This year, first shift students will begin class at 8:00 a.m. and will have lunch 8th period. Second shift students will begin class at 8:56 a.m. and will also have lunch their 8thperiod. Unless they are participating in an after-school activity such as a club, athletics or extended school, students will be permitted to leave school for the day once they have finished their lunch.

Over the years, the success of Jane Addams has been directly related to the vibrant partnership our school has established among our committed and excellent staff, active parents, and supportive community members.
At Jane Addams, we believe in the unlimited potential of our students and expect each of them to achieve at high levels academically and socially and to make wellness a priority in their lives. The hopes and dreams of our students have no limit and we focus each day on helping them realize the full extent of their ability.
As you are aware already, Jane Addams is scheduled to close in June 2015 or with the graduation of this year’s sophomore class. While this is a reality, we are committed to offering each student a personalized learning plan that meets NY State requirements for a Regents diploma and which provides for the supports necessary to realize success.
