Brief History

Frederick Douglass Academy III is an in innovative secondary school based on the doctrines of Dr. Lorraine Monroe. The school is based on the work she did while at the Frederick Douglass Academy (FDA) in Harlem, New York. In 1990, after a long career as a teacher, administrator, international consultant, and innovative school leader, Dr. Monroe was given the opportunity to create a school in which she could implement every good practice she had ever used, observed, researched or dreamed up. In 2000, Frederick Douglass Academy III opened its doors as an academy within Intermediate School 219. After four successful years as an academy, FDA III opened in 2004 as a school.
