ACADEMIC SUCCESS AND INTEGRITY

Academic achievement is a primary goal of Frederick Douglass Academy III. Scholars are exposed to differentiated curriculum, accelerated course work, enriched instructional activities and cooperative learning experiences. Therefore, we especially honor those scholars who achieve academic excellence through our Honor Roll.

Honor Roll

It is a great distinction to be awarded an Honors certificate at Frederick Douglass Academy III. This award represents more than just scholastic achievement; it also symbolizes an individual of character and perseverance.  Honors scholars must maintain a 90 or above and a Satisfactory conduct mark in all subjects.

Honor Code

In all aspects of Frederick Douglass Academy III life, we focus on living with personal integrity. Cheating, plagiarizing, or giving or receiving unacknowledged assistance in academic work and lying and stealing are unacceptable behaviors in this community.

Plagiarism

1.      Plagiarism is the unacknowledged use of another’s words or ideas:

a)      If you use another’s words you must use quotation marks, and you must indicate whose words they are

b)      It is not enough to change the words of your source. You must give credit for the ideas you get from any other source

c)      Computer programs fall under plagiarism rules

2.      Using unauthorized notes or other aids, or copying from another Scholar’s work during the test

3.      Giving unauthorized aid to another Scholar; allowing another Scholar to copy or use one’s test, paper, or homework.

4.      Use of help on homework or take-home tests that is beyond the limits specified by the teacher.

Scholars can avoid the charge of plagiarism by acknowledging sources in many ways. If a Scholar has any questions about academic honesty, it is his/her responsibility to ask a teacher BEFORE submitting the assignment.

Teachers should review methods of citing sources when giving assignments and should set clear expectations about what kind of help is appropriate.
