Homework Policy

Homework Policy

Frederick Douglass Academy III believes that completing homework assignments dramatically increases the power of classroom learning experiences. The research supports this belief, on standardized tests, homework-completing Middle School scholars outperformed non-completers by 35%.

Our Primary Purposes of HW

·        Reinforce what was taught in class

·        Prepare the Scholars for the next class meeting

·        Evaluate Scholars’ understanding of the work presented

·        Learn how to take and manage responsibility for one’s own learning

Frederick Douglass Academy III Homework Policy

·        Scholars should have approximately 2 hours of homework each night (i.e. 30 minutes of homework per subject nightly)

·        If a Scholar does not complete an assignment, s/he must hand in a note indicating that the assignment was not completed. Scholars who do not hand in a note will NOT be allowed to make up the assignment.

·        All missed assignments must be turned in at the following class meeting. No assignments will be accepted after this point.

·        Scholars who come to class without completing a homework assignment should be given detention.

Scholars should have a separate homework assignment notebook to record their assignments.
