The primary focus of the educational community in Community School District Ten is to build a community of learners and leaders. This school community encourages the involvement of students, staff, parents and other constituencies so that they are active participants in a collaborative decision making process. Our school based planning also involves representatives from community based organizations. We encourage active participation and exploration by placing special value on personal growth and development. It is our intention to build a community of young people who will continue to strive for excellence. In order to meet the challenge to create and support a child-centered school where all children can learn, we provide a nurturing, safe environment in which we can incorporate a curriculum that will address the needs of our diverse student population.
Middle School students are offered opportunities to participate in Club Periods one afternoon each week. There are after-school programs to improve Literacy, Math, Early Childhood skills (Project Read), ESL and to develop our student talents in the Arts. We also offer an Earth Science Regents class for students in grade 8.
Our intramural program includes basketball and softball teams for boys and girls. We have a Student Council for Elementary and Middle School students. Students participate in dance with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Music Program, Chess Team, and the New York Knicks Healthy Lifestyles Program.
We have partnerships with the following: Bronx Community College, Bronx Zoo, Lehman College, NY Public Library (CLASP), LINC, Pius XII, the Cadets and Adopt-a-Class Program.
