Building futures for tomorrow's leaders in collaboration with parents and the greater school community is the primary focus of our professional efforts. Students are challenged to think creatively, reflect on how they learn and apply their skills and knowledge to increasing higher levels of performance that eventually realize their potential. Valuing their role within the human family, our youngsters embrace the diversity that is a source of America's strength. Helping others, especially those who may be marginalized, nurtures those values that contribute to building one's character. A growing understanding and appreciation of the arts encourages our students to enjoy an artist's retrospective or a concert in the park.

Spanish is taught as a foreign language beginning in the upper elementary grades. Eighth graders can challenge the advanced Spanish proficiency examination. Computer Basic is offered to eligible eighth graders for ninth grade credit. A Saturday Academy is offered for immigrant students.

A Sports and Arts In the Schools Program has provided additional sports activities for our students after school. An active after school intramural basketball program has fostered competition among neighboring public schools for boys and girls. A junior chorus is planned for the current school year.

Internships are offered to Eighth Graders in our Overcoming Obstacles Program with community based organizations. A homework-tutoring program is offered after school for our students as well as a teen center under the auspices of the Neighborhood Initiative Development Corporation.
