Academic Intervention Initiatives

Mission Statement

2006-2007

Public School 6X will focus on intervention through early, continuous, and varied assessments will enable the school to align instruction to the specific needs of individual students, as well as, addressing grade level needs. The use of multiple assessments and the professional development of staff will build a community of educators, who are knowledgeable and professionally versatile to meet the academic needs of their students.

Early identification of students’ strengths and needs will allow for the development of instruction which addresses students at their individual levels of need. Through the use of such assessment tools as ECLAS-2, DRA, Princeton Review, Reading and Running Records, and Teacher Generated Test, C.S. 6X will be able to academically profile students in order to meet their individual academic needs. It is hoped by doing so, student achievement levels across the academic content areas will be significantly increased.

Curriculum initiatives which align themselves to assessment data will lead toward academic improvement on an individualized as well as grade level basis. Such curriculum initiatives as the Balanced Literacy Approach, Everyday Mathematics, Leveled Libraries, the addition of AIS support staff and professional development will align instruction to assessment data and will lead to the improvement of student performance.
