ELA (English Language Arts)

At New Day Academy, English and Social Studies are combined into one interdisciplinary department called Humanities.

JUNIOR INSTITUTE
In the 6th and 7th grade, students take Humanities as one class.  In Humanities, students will build literacy and critical thinking skills while learning about Ancient Civilizations, American and world history, geography, sociology, and world culture.   8th graders take English Language Arts and Social Studies as separate courses, but the teachers collaborate to ensure unity between course content.

SENIOR INSTITUTE
In the 9th and 10th grade, students take Humanities as one class.   In Humanities, students will build literacy and critical thinking skills while focusing on global culture and history, sociology, and American history.  11th graders take English Language Arts and United States History during separate periods.
