At PS 54, students are taught to master software for creating documents — word processing, spreadsheets, databases, draw/paint, and presentations. They also learn graphing tools, which allow them to gather, sort and classify information.  Students use visual thinking to create concept maps and outlines, which help them in planning and brainstorming projects. In addition, they use multimedia-authoring software to design original interactive projects and presentations, which include sounds, animations and videos.

Students learn standard applications such as Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), iMovie and GarageBand. Once they have built basic skills and are computer independent, they work on technology projects related to the classroom curriculum.

Students build their skills on educational websites and use online resources to enhance their reading and writing through technology. Upper grade students have the opportunity to participate in a higher-level inquiry-based Robotics Enrichment program.
