AVID

AVID Advancement Via Individual Determination is a college bound program for the academic middle here at ACORN Community High School. AVID, with a proven track record in more than 2,200 schools, 36 states, and 15 countries provides proven methodologies to assist students in meeting the demands of a four year college setting.

THE AVID STUDENT

AVID targets students in the academic middle who may not have the necessary resources in order to meet the challenges of a four year college.

With the help of AVID methodologies and trained AVID teachers, students are challenged to meet the rigor of this demanding program.

           CURRICULUM

Developed and refined by exceptional middle and high school teachers for almost three decades, the AVID curriculum is based on rigorous standards.

Driven by WICR (writing, inquiry, collaboration, and reading), this methodology holds true in providing a vehicle for students to think critically and independently.

ROLE OF PARENTS

Getting through such an intense program that AVID provides can be challenging. In order to meet these challenges, orchestrated support is necessary. With the hard work and dedication of our AVID Coordinator, Principal, Parents, Parent Coordinator, and dedicated AVID teachers, a support system is currently in place to ensure that every student succeeds.

To increase the likelihood of students succeeding in the AVID program, parents must sign a written contract indicating that they will fully support the student. Parents are required to sustain student encouragement, support AVID academic requirements, and increase their involvement in the academic success of the student.

             THE MISSION OF AVID

AVID is designed for the academic middle in order to meet the challenges of rigorous coursework and to ensure that students are successful in meeting their academic challenges.
