L!brary

PS 17 was very fortunate to be one of the first thirty NYC schools chosen to receive a L!brary grant from the Robin Hood Foundation.  During the  two and a half years of planning, meetings, and waiting, we were not sure that all the demolition and dust would actually result in a L!brary.  But as construction continued, we saw walls, lights, and most importantly, shelves!
While all the hammering and painting was going on, thirty
L!brarians were working toward their Master in Library Science degrees at Syracuse University.  Finally, construction was completed,  L!brarians graduated, books and technology arrived.  We were ready!!
All members of the PS 17 community are vital to the success of the L!brary Initiative.  We work hard to keep the L!brary busy and active, and maintain our focus as a center for learning.  Classes visit the L!brary weekly, and students may choose new books each week.  Classroom teachers and the librarian work together to plan individual class projects, and classes may plan additional time in the L!brary.
The technology included in the L!brary provides a progressive dimension to PS 17.  Desktop computers, laptops, wireless connections and our SmartBoard all enchance student learning.
     See you in the L!brary!
