Curriculum Statements
This year we have developed Curriculum Statements that explain what students will learn during the school year.  Curriculum Statements are sent home every 2-3 months for all grades to inform families of the content and skills that will be taught during each new unit and to provide them with helpful suggestions for how to support their children at home. more>> 

Infectious Enthusiasm: A CookShop Teacher

Although this is only Daisy Carusillo’s second year implementing the Food Bank’s CookShop Classroom curriculum at PS 24 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, she handles the job like an old pro. more>>
 
Dental Services for Students at PS 24
Lutheran School-Based Health Center is currently providing dental services at PS 24. The School-Based Dental Clinic (SBDC) provides preventive and restorative services including; dental exams, dental hygiene treatments, fluoride treatments, sealants, and fillings. PBS  Highlights PS 24’s Social Emotional Learning  (SEL)

On July 21, 2009 the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer aired a segment on the remarkable success of PS 24’s Social Emotional Learning Program in partnership with Morningside Center. The segment highlights Morningside’s classroom-based 4Rs Program (Reading, Writing, Respect & Resolution), an innovative, research-based approach for fostering students' social and emotional learning. more>>

  DOING WHAT WORKS

    The U.S. Department of Education's Doing What Works website identifies best practices in schools across the country. The USDOE has chosen to highlight PS 24’s partnership with Morningside Center for Teaching Social Responsibility. This partnership has grown into a comprehensive, school-wide initiative that fosters students' social and emotional learning that can "reduce behavior problems in elementary school classrooms."
 


  PEACE HELPERS AT PS 24

Edutopia, the website of the George Lucas Educational Foundation, features a program where 4-5 students in every K-2nd grade classrooms are selected to be trained by older students to take leadership in their classrooms to help manage conflicts and support children when they are upset.

  Our Principal Christina Fuentes Receives Sloan Public Service Award

On March 9, PS 24 Principal Christina Fuentes received the 2010 Sloan Public Service Award from the Fund for The City of New York in recognition of her amazing work at PS 24. Congratulations, Christina!  http:www.fcny.org/fcny/core/sloan/
