New Voices School of Academic & Creative Arts/M.S. 443 was established to provide students with a challenging educational environment in which instruction in all the core academic subjects would be infused and enhanced by the integration of the visual and performing arts. Since its inception, the school has offered electives and concentrated instruction in the arts disciplines of visual art, dance, instrumental music, theatre, and graphic arts/technology component. Our unique vision is to allow our students to excel both artistically and academically in a positive, nurturing, and literate environment. We provide an arts education that develops the creative potential of each student. Our arts program is designed to not only develop the talent and knowledge of our students but to also ignite their artistic passions. We believe that children who study and practice the arts enhance their intellect, learn self-discipline and realize the global implications of creativity and culture.
The overall goal of our arts program is to have students excel and desire excellence in the arts as well as academics. To achieve our goal, instruction must be project-based, and it must address NYS and National Arts Standards. Students create project and products that integrate literacy and broaden the definition to encompass visual literacy. Teachers have made a commitment to provide students with rubrics, models, and clear expectations so that student work and output reaches a higher level.
