The New York State Education Department's (NYSED) Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) have initiated a NYC Transition Focused Review in The Secondary School for Research during the 2008 - 2009 school year. The purpose of the review is to assess the school's compliance with federal and State laws and regulations governing the education of student's with disabilities as well as its ability to meet key performance indicators identified by the State Education Department related to the provision of service to students with disabilities designed to facilitate the student's movement from school to post-school activities, including, but not limited to, post-secondary education, adult services, independent living, or community participation.
The review will be conducted by VESID's NYC Special Education Quality Assurance office in conjunction with personnel from the NYC Department of Education. The activities will involve a review of school records of selected students with disabilities and interviews with selected administrators, teachers, providers and students.
A summary of the findings will appear on the Department of Education webpage at the conclusion of the review. Further information may be obtained by contacting VESID's Special Education Quality Assurance office and/or The Secondary School for Research.
