Students Can Enter Architectural Photography Contest

All New York City public school students (grades pre-K-12) are invited to submit architectural photographs of their school for a citywide exhibit titled "PS Architecture: Through the Lens of a Student Photographer." There will be one winner for elementary, middle, and high school from each borough and one citywide grand prize winner from each school level.
The DOE will convene a panel of photographers, architects, and respected educators to serve as a jury. The final selected works will be featured in an exhibition at the Center for Architecture and in a slide show on the DOE Web site. The exhibition is scheduled to open this fall at the Center for Architecture. The students whose work is chosen for the exhibit will be asked to submit a personal statement about their work, which will be part of the exhibit and appear as part of the online slide show.

Students Can Apply for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Scholarship

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has created an endowment earmarked for students who wish to incorporate their musical interests into non-traditional, non-performing areas of study and vocations. Myriad opportunities for these connections exist in areas like music media, advocacy, marketing, and law and technology.
Five $5,000 scholarships will be awarded to non-music majors who best express music's impact upon their lives, its specific inspirational aspects, and the ways in which its importance will be reflected in their personal and professional life choices. Schools Can Enter Brooklyn District Attorney’s Essay Contest
High schools / Deadline: May 16
The Kings County District Attorney is sponsoring an essay contest for high school students on the topic of “What is Bias and How It Can be Countered?” Each school can submit one entry, which should be between 250 and 350 words and explain what the author sees as the core cause of bias, what might be the reason for it (or how it developed), and give at least one manner of abating bias or possibly solving this problem completely. The winners will be chosen by the staff of the District Attorney’s office, and prizes will be determined by the District Attorney. High School Students Can Apply for Summer Journalism Program
High schools / Deadline: June 7 / Event: August 11-24
High school students can apply to the Reader’s Digest Journalism Training Program. This program exposes rising sophomore, juniors, and seniors interested in news to the inner workers of the journalism profession. The program will run in Manhattan August 11–24. All expenses associated with attendance (including transportation and food) will be covered. Please encourage interested students to apply online.
