Overview of the Dual Language Program
The Dual Language programm is housed in The Caton School. It serves youngsters in grades K-4, English and Spanish are the languages used for instruction in the major content area (Math, Science, and Social Studies). Literacy is taught in the students' first language. The classes are composed of English proficient students and Spanish proficient students.
    Goals
    The goals of the Dual Language Program are to have the students comprehend, speak, read and write in both English and Spanish.
    The students are expected to:
    * meet and exceed New York State and City standards in two languages (Spanish and English)
    *develop proficiency in their first and second languages
    *attain a higher level of self-esteem, as well as academic, linguistic, and socio-cultural development.
    *develop an appreciation for cultural diversity.

    Required Parent Commitment
    *Keep children in the program for four years.
    *Maintain high attendance and reduce absenteeism
    *Support continued development in second language at home.
    *Attend parental meetings and conferences.
    *Support your child's academic, linguistic and socio-cultural development.
