Poetry Contest

The Central Brooklyn Martin Luther King Commission in conjunction with former Congressman Major Owens is sponsoring the 27th Annual “Education – The Key To The Future” Essay and Poetry contest for students in grades 4 – 12.

This contest is designed to encourage students to learn about the wisdom and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., after which our young people should be motivated to write their essays or poems according to the guidelines enclosed. This is an occasion to provide an opportunity for expressing critical thinking and creative communication skills, while reflecting the philosophy of Dr. King.

All participating students will receive T-Shirts at the annual celebration event. 

Winners will receive awards, money and prizes at the commemorative celebration of Dr. King’s Birthday on Monday, January 16, 2012 at Prospect Heights High School Campus.

We are inviting you and your faculty to participate in this project by submitting outstanding works from each of the two categories (Essay and Poetry)The guidelines for the contest are here.
