Our Mission

Public School 149 is committed to the development of the whole child: academically, physically, socially and emotionally. Working with rigor, focus and a strong sense of purpose our students strive to achieve high standards of excellence. Through our instructional guidance, and family service programs, we seek to assist our students to reach their full potential so that they may be better able to function in our increasingly technological society. Public School 149 is a dynamic school with a rich heritage on which we are building. We hope to use the arts to champion our children's talents, to challenge their energy, to nurture their spirits, to foster their skills and to showcase their accomplishments.

Special Programs

Project Arts Dance/Art/Music Program, Computer Labs, and The Library/Media Center are all resources to promote our students' learning.

To further enhance our children's education, we provide early morning tutoring for students in Grades 3-5, three days per week. The Gary Klinsky After School Program provides additional support for students in Grades 1-5.  Students in grades 3-5 also have the opportunity to enroll in the Saturday Academy Program as well as the Afterschool Program on Tuesdays and Wednesday.

Our Community

We have partnerships with the Gary Klinsk Afterschool Program, City Year and Learning Learders.

Around Our School

The halls are alive with the images in our school.  This past January 17, 2011, our volunteer group, City Year, working with some of our students, created beautifully themed murals throughout our school.  On the second floor, we are surrounded by Doctor Seuss.  The third floor has an international theme, with countries around the world.  On the fourth floor, we have music everywhere; each mural represents a decade in popular American music.
Intersperse with these murals are several quotes from some well known people.
