P.S. 179 is located in the Kensington section of Brooklyn, New York near the major intersection of Church and McDonald Avenues. We are a Magnet School of Math, Science, and Technology. We serve a population of approximately 940 students from culturally diverse backgrounds. The community is home to immigrants from Asia, specifically Bangladesh and Pakistan, the Caribbean, Mexico, the Middle East and Uzbekistan.
Ongoing effort to increase parental and community involvements are beginning to take hold. With cooperative efforts of parents and organizations such as, Prospect Park Educational Program, BCUE, Penny Harvest, Ditmas IS 62-Community Service and Tutorial Program, Y.M.C.A.- Virtual Y, Marquis Arts Studio, Ballet Tech, The New York Stock Market Game, PENCIL Corporation's Principal for a Day, Barnes and Noble and the Kensington Branch of New York Public Library. We have been able to provide our students with supplemental activities to enhance their education.
